As early as the late 60's early 70's we were installing all transistorized
computer gear in the FAA sites.
Perhaps you speak of some other components?

Who knows why these new Systems failed. Certainly they are not telling us. So far as can be seen it is just , all the change, testing as usual. Nothing new. FAA did have a contingency plan but a lethargic one if aircraft were grounded for hours.
