Um ... the _specific_ application I had in mind was an HR-type app.

For the Hubble.

Written in Java.

Running on Linux.

I talked to one of the programmer's on Friday night.

My current desktop os for both home and office is Caldera 2.3 linux
(KDE) and with the MAJOR mistakes SUN has made recently it wont be long
before we are talking the same way in reference to java.

And why should they, the 400 isn't meant to be good at calculating the
orbits of planets, or the amount of dark matter in the universe. It is
meant to do payroll, order entry, HR, .... blah blah blah. The people in
charge of payroll and HR for Hubble know what an AS/400 is, not the
dilberts.
