The thing is, that the browser as we know it today may not be around
much longer. With the advent of www2 or web2 or whatever, and with the
standardization of XML (not in the foreseeable future) the interface may
be changing. 
I don't like most web-browser applications interfaces either but as you
said browsers were not designed to handle the type of interface that is
currently being required.
