Late last year, one IBMer acknowledged to me privately, that RPG was being
used more widely than ever before. This was in response to my question
about whether people were still buying the RPG compiler.

But, will Java eventually overtake RPG on the AS/400? Some of my friends
think so. I don't. Although I've done quite a bit of programming in Java,
and like it, I think that ILE RPG is so tightly integrated with OS/400, and
so efficient, that most work will continue to be done in RPG.

Still, I'm grateful for Java, in that it has taken some of the steam out of
M$. I'm also grateful that Java has introduced many of us to
object-oriented concepts and techniques.
