Ron,

What kind of printer are you trying to print to?  We print to Xerox and HP
laser printers and as long as they are configured to print OCR-A, we control
the turning on and off of OCR-A within the program that is creating the
output.  For instance, one printer we have requires a command string of
ESC[11m  to set the font to OCR-A and then a command string of  ESC[10m to
set the font back to the default of Gothic.  Now the 400 cannot send an ESC
(excape) character, so we have to send the command string in hex after
having initiated hex mode within the printer by using a command of &%.   The
string for ESC[11m would be
&%1B5B31316D  and the string for ESC[10m would be &%1B5B31306D.  This is
what we would actually print:

      Joe Schmoe                <==== Prints in regular or default font
      15 Snail Street                   "         "          "
      Abilene, Texas 58585              "         "          "
      &%1B5B31306D              <==== Issues the command to the printer to
switch to OCR-A
      TST OCR-A print           <==== This prints in OCR-A font as will
everything else
                                      until you change the font again.
      &%1B5B31316D              <==== Issues the command to the printer to
switch back to
                                      Gothic font.

Could be more or less difficult or not even possible depending upon the
particular printer that you have.  Also, depending upon your printer you
made need a "controller" box between your printer and your 400.  We use I/O
brand controller boxes which expand the capabilities of the printers that we
have.
