My first guess is your default route has not been set up in your AS/400 to
"see" the
internet. CFGTCP, take option 2 (Work with TCP/IP routes).
Then, you want to add your gateway to the routing table as the default route.
Add
a line similar to:
Type
Route Subnet of Next
Opt Destination Mask Service Hop
1 *DFTROUTE *NONE *NORMAL 216.233.38.113
making 216.233.38.113 my default route if the AS/400 can't find the IP address
anywhere else.
Other things you should consider:
Are you sure your AS/400 has a public IP address? (It may have only a private
IP address).
If this doesn't do it for you, post again and we'll see what else we can come
up with.

Subject: can't ping AS/400 from outside
Ok folks,
This has me stumped:
1) given a network with AIX, Webserver, and AS/400
2) network connected to internet
3) from PC connected to interne (5000 miles away)
I can ping AIX, get pages from the Webserver,
but all attempts to ping the AS/400 times out.
4) Can ping the AS/400 from PCs on the intranet.
5) All IP addresses are correct.
Why can't I access the AS/400 from the outside?
No firewall problem that I know of.
Any special configuration for this needed on the AS/400?
TIA
Leif Svalgaard
