Our network guys grumbled a little about ADSM at first. But now they acknowledged that it's saved their bacon on several occasions. And, no, while we've purchased BRMS for this same 400, we've yet to put it into service. Speaking of BRMS, the last time I went to COMMON I was really disappointed with the session on BRMS. While hoping for an intro and maybe then intermediate 'how to', basically what I got was 'get training' 'get training' 'get training'. The 3570 was attached to the 400. You also have to purchase the appropriate clients in addition to ADSM. The 3570 tape library had to be configured differently to allow the 400 to back up. There is a SIGNIFICANT learning curve, and since you said this would be a "temporary" situation I don't think ADSM is a viable option. The network guys hated ADSM and eventually put their own tape drive on the server and used ARCSERVE. rob@dekko.com@midrange.com on 10/02/2000 10:54:20 AM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Sent by: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com cc: Subject: Re: Backup/integration - As400 & NT Use ADSM instead of BRMS. charlotte.wells@marshallcaven dish.co.uk To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Sent by: cc: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Backup/integration - As400 & NT 10/02/00 02:03 AM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L Running a 720 v4.4. Is there any way of backing up an NT server to our 3570 drive without having to buy BRMS ? This will just be used as a temporary solution. Currently there is no relationship between the 400 and NT servers, other than they are all on the ethernet LAN. We are also considering putting NT on the 400, using an INS card - any gothchas here? How well did this work? Any ideas/suggestions gratefully received.
