Perhaps you should put this question to PERLE since they have excellent tech 
support.  There are several models of Perle remote controllers with different 
capabilities & easy to do upgrades.

We used to have older Perle model on leased phone line then went to Ethernet 
over VPN but the Perle still thinks it is leased line, in other words even 
though we are on Ethernet, it is like twinax emulation ... our Perle is NOT 
talking TCP/IP.
