We connect many PCs via twinax ... there are a ton of outfits that charge 
like $100.00 per seat to connect the PC ... many of them are advertised in 3X 
Warehouse & places like that ... then once connected there are a ton of 
software packages to move data between 400 & PC ... we use Monarch but there 
are lots of others ... periodically there are reviews of these products 
pointing out their relative pros & cons in the 400 trade press ... last time 
I read one of these buyer's guides there were like 50 different vendors in 
the biz. 

But trying to do it yourself seems to me like the myth that it is cheaper to 
build your own PC from scratch than to buy a ready made working one from a PC 
store.
