Here is one way to convert a numeric MMDDYY to an Excel Date Value:
=DATE(MID(TEXT(A1,"000000"),5,2),MID(TEXT(A1,"000000"),1,2),MID(TEXT(A1,"000
000"),3,2))

If you really want to convert it to a string value:
=TEXT(DATE(MID(TEXT(A1,"000000"),5,2),MID(TEXT(A1,"000000"),1,2),MID(TEXT(A1
,"000000"),3,2)),"YYYY/MM/DD")
