Larry, >I would ask: In DST can you SEE the >drives as being attached to the 6502? As I recall the drives Should >appear there. All appear under the 6502 in DST, but all are listed as non-reporting. I've since also discovered the service action log in DST, which lists all 8 drives with a reference code of 0000 but with each entry also lists the 6502 with a reference code of 3110. See my last reply to Kirk. Under DST, if I display the disk configuration status, ASP 1 shows the two mirrored drives on the MFIOP as status "Active", and all 8 drives on the 6502 as status "DPY/Unknown". The 8 drives' unit numbers are also flagged with an asterik with the notation "Indicates the unit is missing from the configuration." > As Kirk says if 2 or more fail then the set is toast and >a reload is in your future. I understand that, and have a complete backup available. I even have 3 or so spare 6606 drives -- but definately not 8 of them. Do you still have spares? I may be very interested Real Soon Now ... Alternatively, I may be looking for a 6502 or 6522. Have one of those laying around? <g> I wish now I had a spare one to try swapping in as a quick test. Reloading the system is not a big deal -- but I can't do it on a single pair of mirrored 6606's... >I would think the ones still functioning >should still appear, even if they don't spin up. Another reason I suspect the 6502 instead of the 6606 drives failing simultaneously is that I never hear the eight non-reporting drives attempt to spin up. In my limited experience, a 6606 drive with stiction is easy to hear attempt to start. Even with the covers off (so I could try tapping on them) I don't hear any sound from any of the eight. Which leads me to believe the 6502 is not telling them to start, as opposed to the 6606 themselves being bad. But this is just a SWAG. >The two working drives >under the MFIOP should appear as well. They do. >Optionally if they Don't appear >try F10 to display Non-Reporting resources and see if all 8 show up >there. All 8 are listed as non-reporting.
