• Subject: WebSphere 3.5 admin server problems

I just received WebSphere 3.5 and was hoping to install and play around
with it over the holidays.

I did manage to install it successfully on AS/400 (their documentation and
instructions leave something to be desired). I am on V4R5 cum C0294450. As
an aside, this is the first time I have installed an IBM AS/400 program
through Qshell interpreter.

After starting subsystem QEJB/QEJBSBS, I can not get through the step for
"Verifying that the WebSphere Application Server environment has started".

The process to start the admin server during SBS startup blows up.

Job 063269/QEJB/QEJBADMIN started on 12/30/00 at 16:10:55 in subsystem
QEJBSBS in QEJB. Job entered system on 12/30/00 at 16:10:55.
Output file RDBENTRIES created in library QTEMP.
Member RDBENTRIES added to output file RDBENTRIES in library QTEMP.
WebSphere server started with JDK 1.2.
Java program threw an exception.
Application error. MCH74A0 unmonitored by QJVAJNI at statement
   0000001613, instruction X'0000'.
Value for call stack counter parameter not valid.
Application error. CEE9901 unmonitored by QP0ZSPWC at statement
   0000000534, instruction X'0000'.
  This job ended abnormally.

Additional info produced for the error is:

java.lang.VerifyError:
com/ibm/ejs/client/SelfInitializer
       java/lang/Throwable.<init>(Ljava/lang/String;)V+4
(Throwable.java:94)
       com/ibm/ejs/sm/server/ManagedServer.<init>([Ljava/lang/String;)V+98
(ManagedServer.java:332)
       com/ibm/ejs/sm/server/AdminServer.<init>([Ljava/lang/String;)V+1
(AdminServer.java:476)
       com/ibm/ejs/sm/server/AdminServer.main([Ljava/lang/String;)V+37
(AdminServer.java:357)

This error leads me to believe there might be something wrong with the
SelfInitializer class. JavaDoc for VerifyError is "Thrown when the
"verifier" detects that a class file, though well formed, contains some
sort of internal inconsistency or security problem."

I have tried to start the SBS as the security officer, so I don't think
that is the problem. I will be ordering the latest Group PTFs for
WebSphere (SF99142) and checking if there is a later cum PTF.

In the mean time, any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.
