RS/6000 is an UNIX System.  Like in the example, put a Ford Escort engine on
a Ford Pickup body with a Ford Explorer Suspension and you will have the

Until now, I had never seen any good 3rd party software or printer stop
working after an OS or Database version upgrade. (with the exception of an
CISC to RISC upgrade).  I can't say the same with an HPUX, Oracle or Sybase
Upgrade.

Not necessary I didn't say that you could build your own car using an
AS/400.
What I said was, you have the option not to do it.  You could use 3rd party
hardware, you can install M$ Access on the IPCS and use it as your main
database .  You could create your own Database not using UDB (user spaces,
User indexes, create your own Btrees
and other tools). Not that I recommend it.  Our job is, IMHO, to adjust the
system the best we can to our customer-employee needs without loosing the
support that AS/400 as a whole gives as much as possible.

Unless your trying to keep your job in M$ way (If a need for your job
doesn't exist, you have to create one). :)  Thank God for Bill Gates or 80%
of our MIS staff will be out of job.
