Re: IBM Tech Conf vs. Common Conference

COMMON I've found has much greater variety, and has the added bonus of 
conveying information that isn't necessarily the IBM line.

However on the other hand, it's very easy to waste time at a session in 
COMMON that's little more than a product pitch (and sometimes a bad one 
too).  Don't get me wrong, often I want to see a product pitch.  It's just 
that the description of the COMMON session could lead you to believe 
something is not a pitch when it actually is.

I like to alternate the two - you'll find a lot (but not all) of the IBM 
sessions at the Tech. Conf. get repeated at COMMON. 

As a beginner in the field, you might want to try the IBM Conference first 
- it is a little more focused (by it's very nature) and thus a little 
easier to handle.  However, if you might not get another chance soon, then 
COMMON might be better as it gives a wider variety of topis and 
viewpoints. 

Either one will be well worth it though!
