I've seen on a number of occasions that when a client needs to perform a
major conversion, a logical alternative is to replace the S/36 code with
a packaged application and then migrate the data.  When this becomes an
option, then a different platform is a very valid choice, and often less
expensive than a labor-intensive code conversion.  How many of these M36
shops have a large in-house staff which would require retraining?
