The way I heard it was that the original developers of Sequel were
subcontracted to Rochester to write an enhancement/addon to Query/38. When
almost finished the project was canned (rumor was performance/capacity
issues, but who knows). They either were allowed to keep/buy some of the
code or were able to recode with what they had learnt. In any case
Sequel/38 came out shortly after this project folded. They obviously had
access to info not generally available at the time.
