I know you just said that they were not interested in a commercial product, but 
it would be much cheaper and faster to buy a cpommercial product for this task. 
Where I work, we use SPOOLMAIL from gumbo software. It cost about 700$ for a 
P10 machine, It can be installed and configured in less that 30 minutes.

Looking for a resource to setup the AS/400 to deliver a spool file as email.
Company does not own any of the 3rd party software for doing this task nor
do they wish to purchase one.
