I envisage it all being done on the 400.  The PC only comes into play to do
the physical cd cutting.

Therefore your second option best describes the process.

The trick is in making it as transparent as possible to the user.  I use a
custom command to control the whole messy restore process.
This command is first automatically restored to the resulting AS/400 via
standard LODRUN stuff.
