Hi William,

I can't help you with the "Mobile User VPN", but I have two customers, both
of which have provided me with different VPN software. One is the Intel
NetStructure VPN Client; the other is Nortel Networks "Extranet Access
Client".  My PC connects to a LinkSys router (model BEFSR41), which connects
to an Adelphia cable modem.  Neither of these has the timeout problems to
which you refer; however, I had very little to do with their setup.

My LinkSys router is actually set up as a gateway, and although the
configuration screen shows a "Keep Alive" check box, I do not have it
checked.

Similarly, I use TN5250 as my Telnet client and it also has a Keep Alive
option, which is currently set at zero.  I've been known to leave it on all
night and it doesn't drop.

There were problems getting both the clients configured correctly, but that
was simply to get connected.  Since then, they've been solid.

I didn't respond to this thread earlier because I really don't have anything
new to contribute; but then you made the remark about surely someone is
doing VPN to an AS400.  And I'm sure I'm not the only one, nor are these the
only two VPN clients being used out there.
