My programmer is still working on his 3270 telnet server for our
archiving product, LaserVault. (he's drawing sample screens with
different attributes. What fun.)

This gave me another idea, I don't know how practical.

He plans to finish that up and then do a 5250 one also. (Right
now we have client software on the AS/400 to talk to our
server.)

What about being able to write green screen applications with
Visual Basic? Suppose you could make a VB-based program that
talked to our server, and then to a green screen? Maybe if you
had a PC-based database that you wanted to give AS/400 access to
, or you want to write an email ap, or something.

Like I said, this idea is off the wall. I guess the server would
have to have a menu system or something to call the right VB
prgram to handle that particular screen.

(Of course you could use C, foxpro, or anything else that can
call activex.)

And your same program should be able to talk to 3270 screens
also. They would come in thru telnet.

I didn't say it was a good idea, just and interesting idea.

I suppose there are already RPG/CL emulators that run on the PC,
and handle multiuser.
