Hi Brad,

Guess I misunderstood your original email. You said "What about being able
to write green screen applications with Visual Basic? Suppose you could make
a VB-based program that talked to our server, and then to a green screen?"
which I took to mean a PC-based VB program communicating with an AS400-based
green-screen program (presumably RPGLE). One way to do that would be for
the programs to communicate through a file, accessed on the VB side by ODBC.
Klunky for sure, but possible.

I believe Client Access had some .dll's that gave some access to the 5250
data stream in use by a CA session, but maybe that was PC Support.

I wrote a VB program to act as a server (via data queues) for AS400 programs
to use to do MS Word mail merge, and believe me, the mail merge part was a
whole lot more "fun" than reading and writing the data queue. And you're
right, writing a PC-based program to act as a server for an AS400 client is
a hoot.
