Useful Commands & Menus
====================

CALL QCMD then F10
This gives you expanded command line with running log of your actions &
extremely powerful options & flexibility ... perhaps I should do whole page
of FAQ on the neat stuff we can do with this.

GO ASSIST

F21 on many standard IBM commands (look at spool reports, messages etc.)
to select assistance levels

*BASIC = for Newbies
*INTERMEDIATE = most users
*ADVANCED = expert beyond belief

Command Structure
-----------------------------
Verb Noun etc.

There are standard abbreviations for each function, combined

e.g. WRKCFGSTS
verb = work with
noun = configuration
etc. = status

Any time we need "work with" the verb is ALWAYS WRK and it is always the
first part of the command ... you can key WRK* & enter to get a list of these
& the number will blow you away.

The asterisk on the end is called a "wild card" meaning any value there.
You may see references with asterisk in front like *ALL *LIBL *NO
that has special IBM defined meanings

Commonly used verbs are
DSP Display information without changing it
PRT Print
WRK Work With (combination of display print change other options)

Common Nouns
MSG messages
USR user
SPLF spooled file print-outs
JOBQ Job Queue

You can do WRKMSG* to get at a list of all commands that start with those
letters, or go CMDxxx to get all commands that have xxx in them such as

GO CMDVRY Vary on & off specific devices
GO CMDCFG Configuration
GO CMDLF Logical Files

On your PC do you have ? 400
Operations Navigator or
Management Central

It is possible that this stuff is on your 400 but not on the particular PC
you using

GO MAJOR will take you to a menu where you can look at commands by subject,
by verb, by other criteria
