I do not know the specifics of how DB2 Connect works, but this is what I
believe is accurate:
I make calls to it using the ODBC API in PHP, BUT when I compile ODBC, I
compile it with the DB2 Connect libraries. As far as I know, the ODBC calls
are merely masked. DB2 Connect is really a daemon that runs on the Linux
server, not a driver. It communicates with the AS/400 via CLI (not sure if
that is different than what ODBC/OLE DB does on Windows). Plus, DB2 Connect
is made for multi-user systems and not necessarily single user like ODBC.
