Now that you mention it, I think you may be right.  The concurrency fee may be
for people who *had* the subscription, but let it lapse.  As a (prospective) new
owner, Terry could prossibly just start a subscription, get the V5R1 upgrade
(and thus all compilers if there is at least one transferred to him), then not
renew.

And I believe software subscription is available on a monthly basis, even if
people generally prepay at least a year.  For the P05, the annual is (was?) $600
and I think the monthly was $55.  Might only take a month or so. <g>

Depending on the processor, the machine could be P05, P10, or P20.

Of course, getting a business partner or IBM to help you get setup with a
customer number and software subscription knowin you may only pay for a month or
two may be tough.  But technically I think it may be possible provided the box
is considered licensed for V4Rx and the current owner will transfer LPPs too.
