The wrq reflection visual basic works as a screen scraper on steroids.

I worked with it for a few days, here is some of what I saw it do:

The vb macros are coded in a vb project. This means you get the full
capabilities of vb from your macro.

The vb macros can do standard screen scrape and auto key functions.

You can config your session to run a vb macro every time a new screen is
displayed to the user.  Use this to scan the screen contents and identify
what screen is on the display.

The toolbar can be reconfiged on the fly.  So each screen can be coded to
have different toolbar buttons.

Different mouse buttons and clicks can call different vb macros. The mouse
click event routine can then rtv the location of the cursor, copy the cut
and paste selections to the clipboard, run code to get the clipboard
contents, ...

A practical use of all of this is to rtv the contents of the screen, use
automation to start up domino, then prompt the user to complete an email msg
containing the text taken from the dsply screen.

A little more involved is a way to initiate an import of data into an excel
spreadsheet.  The user presses a cmd key, the as400 pgm prepares the data to
import into the spreadsheet as an as400 pf, the name of the as400 file is
then displayed on the screen.  The user then clicks on the file name on the
screen which runs a vb macro which gets the as400 file, starts up excel and
imports the file.  follow ? <g>
