There are different flavors of DSL.  DSL is a generic term.  The A in
ADSL stands for asymmetric (different upload and download speeds), SDSL
is a symmetric connection (same speed both ways).  I have no idea what
the I stands for in iDSL.

Not necessarily true. Our base DSL service provides 640Kbps upstream,
and we can purchase additional bandwith if it's ever required. The
limiting factors are usually the service provider's network, the DSL
modem, and the length/quality of copper between your computer and the
DSLAM.
