They packaged the compilers and the tools as a single entity. Any shop that used PDM and at least one compiler is not paying any more than they would have paid. So who suffers? and in what possible way does this put nails in the coffin? The only people who suffer as far as I can see are the relative few who paid for PDM etc. but had no compiler. On the other hand I think one can make a strong argument that the fact that modern tools are now bundled into the package and that you can use any compiler (including C and C++) without having to go begging for extra money just to "see if it works for us" is a great benefit. I've talked to a lot of folks who feel that if IBM had done this years ago they would be far more advanced in their 400 apps than they are. Jon Paris Partner400
