That's great if you have CAE on all machines. We do not.
Also if you can get the network guy to set up DNS server would also be nice.
I do not have that luxury either. We had no other way to connect PC's to 400
for emulation other than HOST file or IP.

I have a name for the as/400 on my dns server and all CAE installs reference
the DNS name and not the IP address.

For anything, you shuold always use a DNS name and not an IP address.

Also, as a general rule, HOSTS files are bad (and setting up a DNS server is
very negligible)

I assume he is referign to network browsing via Netserver.  Are all
computers setup to view the same workgroup?
