Chuck,
We hired it out, through Sirius. (My boss is pretty tight with them.) We
worked side by side with them to gain what knowledge we could and we
picked up a lot. Hiring it out may be the way to go, unless you plan on
becoming a LPAR consultant yourself.
They did an extensive amount of prep work. On the weekend of, that fellow
must have put in 30+ straight hours. (We ran into some strange save
issues, etc that delayed the start of the LPAR.) Documentation was
fantastic. Some of the local CE's have done a few LPAR's (and were a tiny
bit bummed they didn't get the job). To others that have helped me out
and maybe were hoping for a shot at the job, sorry, your name may have
been mentioned, but when the boss gets a direction in his head... Oh
well, it worked out.
Based on what they did, I created another partition later on this system.
And ran it by them. But actually did the work myself.
IBM also has a LPAR validation tool, some redbooks, etc if you want to
roll your own.

Hi Folks,

I'm not sure I know much more about LPAR than to be dangerous and we are
looking to upgrade a 620 to an 810 with LPAR. Should I be looking at
attending an LPAR class in Rochester ?
Thanks !
Chuck
