Uh, I don't think a view will work for the KEYFILE part.... That parm refers
to the access path to for the reordering of the PF data.  A view by itself
has no access path, and I don't think SQL allows you to use derived fields
as indexes..... :(

The bit about needing to substring the sort fields.... Is this a
non-described file (flat)?

Agreed on RUNSQLSTM being extra work. The files in question belong to
customers running our software, so I'm afraid there's really no way I
will have any clue ahead of time how they will be sorted. I think I'm
stuck on Eric's idea of dynamically building a CREATE VIEW statement
without building the AP, then RGZPFM referencing that view. And as an
added bonus, I don't end up with a second file. Thank you!
