<snip> The journals are located in ASP2, which has 1 (mirrored) disk drive with about 17.5GB capacity (type 6718). </snip> My first reaction was to question why the ASP2 is mirrored, unless the entire system is. Mirroring requires two confirmed writes to disk prior to moving on to the next write, one for each disk. Raid does not have the double write issue. Thus the potential bottle neck. You're thought about using iSeries Navigator to collect the statistics is a great first place to start. Use the monitors to watch disk IOP and arm performance. You could even set up a trigger event to notifiy you when there is a threshold that has been crossed. Also, you did not discuss what version of the OS you are on. Can you use the newer high performance journalling products? Jim Oberholtzer Senior Technical Architect Computech Resources, Inc.
