Project Estimation

HI I need to make a rough estimate. To unravel a broken system, I want to go 
into the test environment and create a small database - customers, suppliers, 
inventory, etc... Then run some test scripts that will prove whether the system 
works or not. These would be both simple and complex. Enter an order, process, 
ship, bill, etc... and others for backorders, or if someone can suggest other 
complexity issues. This is for a raw food manufacturer. At any rate, I now have 
to estimate how long this entire process will take, from planning to setup to 
running to analyzing the results. Are there any books or aticles that cover 
this 
(prefer from an AS/400 perspective), or is anyone very familiar with this so as 
to give me a rough idea? The team will include key power users, a 
programmer/analyst not very familiar with the system, and a project manager. If
