Gary, Don't know whether it works in v4r4. I first used this in v4r5. Even a google search on ILE_DEBUGGER_1 turned up only ONE hit - the archive post you quoted. Hopefully, Ken will be able to provide the source of his information. BTW, I've got my signon program setting this environment variable at the job level. Never have to think about it and I don't have to futz with system settings (which they're real particular about here). Sorry this doesn't help your particular situation.
