My own feelings based on what you say here, is that Microsoft was learning about their competition in order to build a more competitive product. Nothing in what you write here makes me think that Microsoft was learning how to run their iSeries. At the time they were interested in using VARPG to convert some apps to a PC interface. Then there were the briefings I did to the IBM reps whose only client was MS. And ......
