You could also read the stream file directly using C functions in an RPG program. I use this method whenever I need to read or write stream files. If the records are fixed length you can use a data structure to break it into fields. If not then you would need to check each character for the EOR combination. There has been lots of discussion on the list about this. There should be plenty of examples in the archives and I could provide RPG templates for the C functions I use.
