That ISA and ISE smells like real EDI.  It may be time for you to start 
looking at purchasing an EDI translator.  Caution:  they tend to be tiered 
priced.

Carl,
We do not use EDI here so I'm not sure what real EDI
or NSF2.0 is.
Basically, it's a text file whose data starts with
'ISA' in the first 3 posititions, and 'ISE' to
indicate the end of the data set.
I'm not sure what you mean by running it through a
transator, but I assume that if the cpyfrmstmf will
wrap the data as you say, then I can write a parsing
routine (the program that you suggest) that can
determine actual records using the ~ as the end of
record indicator of '~'.
I was hoping that perhaps someone has done this
without the aid of EDI software. But what you suggest
seems reasonable.
