Anyway, I'm trying to get this job to run faster.  I can't imagine that
actually following the QO's recommendation and creating a logical over the
same keys as the physical would do any good.

The query optimizer can be dumber than a box of rocks sometimes, and just as stubborn.


If it is actually building the same index as an access path that exists, since it is an OPNQRYF, you can try OPTIMIZE(*FIRSTIO) and see if that makes a difference.
