>I'm at a loss as to why you'd ever want to set it to *REMOTE! Why would you ever want to set it to *local? Wouldn't it be better to add an entry for the machine you want in the enterprise's DNS servers rather than maintain a HOSTS table on every machine? I can see one argument that goes "the time to lookup locally before a remote lookup is sooooo small, that it's worth it, just in case you want to override something in HOSTS" but I've see more problems causes by incorrect or outdated entries in a HOSTS table (iSeries and non-iSeries) that I just don't think it's worth it. -Walden ------------ Walden H Leverich III President & CEO Tech Software (516) 627-3800 x11 WaldenL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.TechSoftInc.com Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.
