Joel, Have you looked at CHGPF? If you've already got DDS, it's simply a matter of adding your new fields, save your source, and CHGPF will automagically insert the new fields, leaving your data intact. LFs with explicit field definitions will need to be rebuilt, but this will not be necessary for simple "key field" logicals. Using DDS, I would have to copy the file to another file, CRTPF, then copy the data back member by member. There is also a multi-member LF over this file. Rather than do that for 30+ members, I was wondering what would happen if I used SQLs ALTER TABLE instead. Will this work over multiple members without the data-moving shenanigans? If not, are there any other recommendations for how to proceed with this project?
