Marty, no way to tell.   The techies at the outsourcing facility said both
were direct lines (I did not have to include any numbers to get an outside
line), so I assume they were telling the truth.  No reason no to.
But, you are correct, the customer is happy, and all is working fine on the
production box.  Case closed.

(but now that it works on the othe system at same location, I really suspect
modem + phone line - you don't suppose the test system was using a phone
line through a PBX or something?)
