Ah, it's all to do with density.

In the worst case (105 min) the compression is also the worst - the DVD drive
is having trouble convincing the bits and bytes to stay bunched up, were they
are told to go and a lot of time is spent shuffling the data back to it's right
place - akin to a shepherd with sheep in a large field without a sheep dog;
it's difficult for him to bunch the sheep together in one place and it takes
him numerous tries and a long time (105 mins).

In the next case (49 mins) the compression has improved, so the DVD drive
doesn't need to work so hard to keep the bits & bytes in place - akin to our
shepherd having a sheep dog to help him bunch the sheep together, it take him
less time and the sheep can be bunched closer together.

In the final case (18 mins) the compression is much better and thus the DVD
drive has little (or less) problem telling the bits and bytes to stay where
they are told to stay - akin to our shepherd having a sheep dog to help him,
and a sheep pen to hold the sheep in one place.

Simple really.
