I've always though the argument in 
favor of GUIs was like the argument
in favor of free beer at lunch - 
both make the user slower and less 
accurate at data entry and data 
retrevial and both are seen as good
ideas by most users.  The difference 
is most supervisors understand that 
the users preference for beer at work
is not in the best interests of the 
business, but do not seem able to 
recognize that GUIs are not either.
