List,

A couple of years ago we were given a demonstration of an ERP program with
the ability for the user to pick whether he wanted to work with "green" or
"GUI" screens.
The vendor said that the GUI was developed primarily for the "demonstration
sizzle" that would get the product in the door (day #1), and that the green
screen version was retained to overcome the response time/productivity
complaints that would start arriving on day# 2.

He also said that the data entry operators would be very impressed by the
GUI and "most" would give it a serious try, but that experience showed that
by the end of the week they would "all" move themselves back to the "green"
screen for productivity reasons. He used this to overcome objections that
response time degradation might require a more powerful box.
