Hi Booth -

Last night a comment was made that startled me. Is it possible this
statement is correct?

"If you access a physical file, even if its keyed, by its relative record
number to update it, you will never get a record lock in other programs."

If a record is locked, it is locked, it makes no difference whether the access was keyed or not.

If a record is locked in one open data path, no incompatible lock to that same record is going to be allowed through some other ODP.

That's all standard locking.

If you are interpreting the statement to mean that if there is one record in a file locked by RRN, you can't get a lock on any other record in the file either, that's not true. If the originator of the statement actually meant that, s/he is out in left field (and probably got hit on the head by a ball while there).
