You may think Wilt is just talking technobabble, but RPGLE is really a 
better choice.  To better explain Wilt,
One of the parameters to any trigger programs is one big string with 
before and after images of the record format.  So you can do stuff like
D Old       DS                 extname(MyFile) qualified based(pOld)
D pOld      s              *
D New       DS                 likeDS(Old) based(pNew)
d pNew      s              *
Then you set pOld to the offset of where in the one parameter the old copy 
begins, and pNew...
