Basic difference between an 'Alternate "INSTALLATION" device' and an 'Alternate "IPL" device' is that do to a reload on a totaled system from a tape drive defined as an 'Alternate "INSTALLATION" device' is that you have to IPL from some other device, like an original LIC CD in the optical drive and then continue the restore from the 'Alternate "INSTALLATION" device'.
