Just because the file attribute is PF-SRC doesn't mean it must contain "source" for a compile, so what type of data is in there? Are you storing some kind of text and you want to shorten it and preserve word-wrap? Or is it actual source that might have formatting problems if the records are split? One general possibility that comes to mind is a QM query and form that does column splitting at word breaks (white-space). I've never done it to an outfile; but even if it's to a spooled file, it can be transformed back to a physical file. Tom Liotta
