While it helps to do the prep, I don't think it's a requirement -- If
the default (special) driver doesn't load windows should fall back to
it's base drivers. Granted that would result in a 640x480 VGA display,
but it would work. 

Drivers for disks are a little tricker -- if you need a special driver
for the new controller, and it's not on the disk image then you'll have
a problem. But you might be able to get around that w/a repair boot.

BTW, I would recommend running servers @ 800x600 without special native
drivers -- after all they're servers, do you really need access to
DirectX 10.0 with 10 zillion giga flops of video processing? <G>
