This is really weird.

The devices that I have substituted in are consoles from other systems ( I have an 800 and an 720). So the addresses are set at 0. All three consoles work on the 800 and the 720. I even swapped and tested all three cables which work on the 800 and 720. However, when I connect them to the 170 I get nothing. It will autoconfig a 3476 device and the status goes to vary on pending but the device itself never becomes active. I tried deleting the device several times and I tried other addresses just to see if it is a "console" thing. I varied the controller off, deleted the device and then varied the controller on. I get a device description created, no signon screen.

The alternate brick was an attempt to isolate a possible hardware issue but that brick works on the 720 and is identical to the original on the 170 but made no difference. I am down to a possible card problem but the 170 isn't reporting any hardware problems at all.

Strange, very strange.

I know you must have each of the 3 devices you tried at port 0, addr 0
and you really did cable to port 0 of the 1st twinax controller on the 170?
Have you (once connected) powered of device then on?
Then, if not working, is device "type" same on each test device? Is possible
the subsystem has workstn entry for diff dev type?
Go cmdhdw does show the twinax adapter resource is up & ready?
Can it be varied off/on?

Subject: Twinax console refuses to give signon screen

I am stumped with this one. I have a 170 that I usually have a console
connected to but the thing is bulky and takes up space so I unplugged it
and put it away. Now that I need it, I can't get the thing to give me a
signon screen. I tried 3 different terminals. Three different twinax
cables and even a different 4 port "brick" I borrowed from another
machine. No joy. I can delete DSP01 and it will autoconfig another
one (at address 0 port 0 on the correct controller) but the cursor just
hangs on the right hand side of the screen. No signon.

I *think* I have ruled out a hardware problem. There are no messages.
No SRC's. Nuthin'. It has to be a configuration issue but I sure can't
think of anything I might have missed.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Pete Helgren
