Tom,This was my point at the Town Hall meeting at COMMON. I asked IBM to give us the tools so we can (a) become a community again, and (b) can call this platform+OS a consistent name.
We have the name - System i - now, we need to come together as a System i community. Are you willing to call your AS/400 a System i? Are you willing to call you iSeries a System i?
I recently suggested that IBM give us stickers/labels to put on the front of our AS/400s and iSeries. This would include the AS/400 label and the words "a System i server". Maybe then, we can SEE that it is part of the new family, and our vernacular would change. One can only hope

How is that going too far?rEdiculous?Trevor:Generally, I agree. In fact, I almost wrote the same reply as you did and as I have in the past. But I realized that I almost missed the almost hidden question --And, if we don't know whatto call, how is the general public going to know what to call it, or evenwhat "it" is?I'm not sure that the name change is the problem. As you said, this is only the second change in almost 20 years. The problem is the confusion among the users of the system. This is an area that IBM has failed in its approach. Somehow "we" are confused. IBM's inability to keep "us" clear in our own minds is regularly evident.Tom Liotta
